Advanced Home Upgrade Software Update

Please note the following update effective June 1, 2016:

Advanced Home Upgrade jobs modeled with EnergyPro and TREAT will no longer be accepted. EnergyPro has not elected to continue in Energy Upgrade California® Home Upgrade, and TREAT is no longer eligible because it does not calculate California kW demand savings.

Participants who submitted pre-install applications modeled with EnergyPro prior to Feb. 1 must ensure that post-install applications are completed and approved before June 1. All jobs modeled with EnergyPro that are not completed and approved by June 1 must be modeled with an approved HPXML software and submitted as new applications in the job portal. If you have a large project in the queue that will last longer than four months and exceed the deadline, please contact Build It Green at 510-285-6222 or email info@homeupgrade.org.

The following program-approved software reduce modeling time and offer a user-friendly customer experience:

Please Continue to Submit HPD Forms

Effective April 1, 2015 contractors must complete a Heat Producing Devices (HPD) Verification form (pdf) when insulating a ceiling (and/or adding a heat producing device in an attic with existing insulation) and the ceiling has any heat producing devices (e.g., can lights, exhaust fans, flues, etc.) penetrating the ceiling plane. Submit the HPD form to the Job Portal as supporting documentation of compliance. Additionally, the signed original must be permanently attached (i.e., stapled, strapped, etc.) to the roof rafter or vertical framing member closest to the attic access opening.

5 Questions to Find the Best HPXML Software Tool

With four new HPXML software options to choose from, you may wonder which one is best for you. Build It Green recommends that you ask these five questions, as well as view the HPXML Software Comparison Sheet (pdf), to guide your decision:

  1. Do I need to customize my reports?
  2. Do I prefer a cloud-based tool that I can use in the field on a mobile device, or is fixed installable desktop computer software better?
  3. Do I prefer a one-time installation fee, a monthly charge, or a pay-per-use rate?
  4. Do I need a finely tuned tool with numerous, flexible inputs for the energy model, or would a streamlined program with fewer inputs and less detail be better?
  5. Do I desire the option to calibrate an energy model based on the homeowner’s actual usage?
